Creative Arts Therapy
Creative Arts Therapy is an evidence based, therapeutic approach that uses artistic processes—such as movement, visual arts, music, writing and drama—to support emotional wellbeing, self-expression and personal insight. Creative arts therapy invites people to explore their inner experiences through imaginative, embodied and sensory-based methods.
It can help regulate the nervous system, build resilience, process stress and trauma, and strengthen connection to self and others.
Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) is a specialised form of creative arts therapy grounded in the understanding that the mind and body are deeply connected and that trauma is stored in the body. Through guided movement, body awareness, rhythm and somatic expression, DMT supports people to connect with their physical sensations, release tension, expand emotional range and cultivate new ways of relating. Sessions may include gentle movement, breathwork, stillness and expressive sequences tailored to each person’s needs.
Together, these modalities offer a compassionate, holistic pathway for healing, growth and creative exploration—accessible to people of all ages and abilities.
What to Expect in a session
Sessions weave together gentle talk therapy with creative and embodied processes. We begin with conversation to check in, clarify what’s present, and establish a sense of safety and grounding. From there, we draw on creative arts and movement-based approaches to deepen expression, explore emotions, and support integration.
Depending on your needs, this might include simple movement, drawing, imagery, breath work, storytelling or working with symbolic objects—always at your pace and comfort level. You don’t need any artistic experience.
Sessions typically flow between talking, creating and reflecting, helping you connect insights from the body and imagination with everyday life. The aim is to offer a supportive space where you can explore, release, and make meaning through both words and the creative process.
